His real name is Jean Pierre a.k.a KIDUM. He was born on the 28th of October in the year 1974, in the Northern town of Bujumbura, Kinama location in Burundi. He involved himself in the music industry as a drummer when he was only ten years old in 1984.

He also involved himself in the music industry as a drummer when he was only ten years old in 1984. After two years (1986), he joined the IMVUMERO BAND which was his first music band where he worked for six years (1986-1992)

He later joined the IMBONEZA BAND in the year 1992-1993, which was owned by the then ruling party UPRONA. In 1994, he launched his own band called ELECTRIC POWER, which lasted for only a year due to the war in Burundi.

Due to the political instability in the country, he ran from his country to Kenya in 1995 to continue with his talent. He joined the HOT ROD BAND in which he worked with until the year 2003. He formed his own band, the BODA BODA BAND in 2004 which he still runs to date.

Eric Wainaina


Wainaina was born in Nairobi, Kenya, His love for music started at a young age. He got a piano at age 4, originally intended for his brother Simon who instead took keen interest in football. Wainaina thus grudgingly took piano lessons. He actively participated in the choir throughout elementary and high school at St. Mary’s School, Nairobi, save for a short stint in basketball. Whilst growing up, Wainaina was influenced musically by international artists such as Papa Wemba, Youssou N’Dour, Lokua Kanza and Paul Simon.

2009 proved to be a very fruitful year for Eric. He composed the music for the film, from a whisper, which won the Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Picture, Best Original Soundtrack and AMAA Achievement in Editing awards, in the African movie 2009 awards.

Eric was also commissioned in 2010 to write the UN-MDG anthem to be performed at the closing ceremony of the Fifa world cup in South Africa to be performed alongside Jimmy Dludlu, Baaba Maal and Angelique Kidjo
In 2013 Eric was designated a National UN Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) alongside fellow Kenyan singer Suzanna Owiyo.

Sauti Sol is a Kenyan Afro-pop band from Nairobi comprising members; Bien Aime Baraza (vocals & guitar), Polycarp Otieno (guitar),Willis Austin Chimano (vocals, saxophone & keytar) and Delvin Mudigi (vocals, percussion & drums) formed in 2005. Starting off as an a-Capella group, Bien, Chimano and Delvin previously met in Upper Hill high school where they performed in Voices in the Light, a high school music group. After that stint, the trio met guitarist Polycarp at Alliance Française, where they would frequent and decided to form Sauti (Swahili for voice) and immediately wrote their first song, Mafunzo ya Dunia (Life Lessons) that would later feature in their first album, Mwanzo which is Swahili for “beginning”, which was released in August, 2009.

Their sophomore album, Sol Filosofia, was released in February, 2011.The band has had successful tours in Europe as well as in Africa, topped Kenyan charts and gained international attention with shows in Europe and the US, as well as television appearances, various nominations, including their 2011 celebrated concert performance in Kenya with Ladysmith Black Mambazo (Internationally renowned South African a cappella group). In June 2012, Sauti Sol released ‘Sauti Sol’, a self-titled EP and collaborative effort with South African avant-garde innovative rapper/producer Spoek Mathambo.
